Both Cartesian and spherical coordinate systems are supported. This provides optimal modelling flexibility and ease in setting up new model grids or modifying existing ones, or locally increasing resolution. Further to that, the grid may now also consist of triangles, quads, pentagons and hexagons. Like Delft3D-FLOW, D-Flow FM is capable of handling curvilinear grids, that provide very good performance in terms of computational speed and accuracy. D-Flow FM is the successor of Delft3D-FLOW and in the near future of SOBEK-1DFLOW. The key component of Delft3D FM is the D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. The Delft3D FM Suite can simulate storm surges, typhoons / hurricanes, tsunamis, detailed flows and water levels, waves, sediment transport and morphology, water quality and ecology and is capable of handling the interactions between these processes. The Delft3D Flexible M esh Suite (Delft3D FM) is the successor of the structured Delft3D 4 Suite.
